The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced last week that almost all employers, including Catholic employers, will be forced to offer their employees’ health coverage that includes sterilization, abortion-inducing drugs, and contraception. Almost all health insurers will be forced to include those “services” in the health policies they write. And almost all individuals will be forced to buy that coverage as a part of their policies.

In so ruling, the Obama Administration has cast aside the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, denying to Catholics our Nation’s first and most fundamental freedom, that of religious liberty. And as a result, unless the rule is overturned, we Catholics will be compelled to either violate our consciences, or to drop health coverage for our employees (and suffer the penalties for doing so). The Obama Administration’s sole concession was to give our institutions one year to comply.

This is the biggest misconceived analysis of what the first amendment allows since the penning of said amendment. How do you not have your religious liberty? Art thou not worshiping when you want, where you want, how you want?

If your business is a religious one (re: Church) and you employ religious types (re: Priests) then you are most likely exempt. If you are a fast food joint (re: Chik Fil A) and you employ various denominations of people (re: Not priests) then you shouldn’t expect your employees to 1: Have the same beliefs as you 2: be forced to have the same beliefs as you (sounds like a possible application of said interpretation of said amendment) 3: be descriminated in any fashion for said differing beliefs.

Welcome to the World of the Real, where there IS a separation of Church and State and having health insurance providers include contraceptive / other uteri related coverage has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH WHETHER OR NOT YOU BELIEVE SOME GUY NAMED JESUS DIED A MARTYR FOR YOUR SINS. And all of this, just so Sue who was raped by one of your bigot parish members can’t get an abortion but he can be guaranteed entrance through those pearly gates. Or, impoverished Megan, who medically needs birth control, has to cut deeper into her pockets so she doesn’t suffer, just so you can sleep at night knowing she has to remain abstinent if she doesn’t want kids. You and your type are a disgrace to spirituality.
